As fall slowly approaches, the city of Laval has tons of activities planned for the whole family to keep enjoying its 50th anniversary. There is something for everyone this season, from culture enthusiasts to the active at heart.

Don’t miss a fun-filled weekend for everyone!

On September 6, you are invited to take part in the Fête de la famille, an entertaining free event aimed at bringing together the city’s families. Typically a one-day event, the 2015 edition promises even more enjoyment with two days of magical merriment in honour of Laval’s 50th anniversary. The celebrations will kick off at Centropolis’ Place du 50e with a lively parade that will make its way to the Centre de la nature, host of the event. Connect with your community as you discover a rich regional culture. Street performers, face painters, live performances and street entertainers are guaranteed to put a smile on everyone’s face!

Ride your way around the island.

Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced cyclist, you’ll appreciate Laval à vélo, a 40-kilometre cycling tour of the island’s eastern tip. Take this opportunity to discover some of the region’s most beautiful views. Held on Sunday, September 6, this year’s event will also honour the Espoirs de Laval Cycling Club, one of the most famous in Canada. Past members and future champions will lead the way to the Centre de la nature where the closing party will be held in conjunction with the Fête de la famille. Registration is open until the day of the event and is free for children 12 and under.

Nature lovers, pencil September 19 into your calendar! The Association pour la protection du boisé Sainte-Dorothée invites residents to discover the natural habitats and environment of Sainte-Dorothée’s forest during its Rallye découverte on foot or by bike. Learn about the history of the village, visit greenhouses, taste local products and enjoy the beautiful forest trails and picturesque landscapes that surround them.

A concert you won’t want to miss.

When a throng of talented artists unite with over 200 children from the Sir Wilfrid Laurier school board and a professional orchestra of 35 musicians, a cultural and artistic project such as The Golden Touch is an event bound to be remembered. The adage “Be careful what you wish for” takes centre stage as children learn about the Greek myth of King Midas in this work by Glen Huser, recipient of a Governor General’s Award. On October 28, over 2000 people are expected at the book-CD’s official launch during a unifying and entertaining evening!
