Our Young Authors Contest winner for this issue is Tatiana Athanasiadis, a grade 4 student at John F. Kennedy Elementary School. Tatiana had the opportunity to meet Maddy K of Maddy K Events for a one-on-one interview.

Q; Where did you grow up?
A; I grew up in many different places. I was born in Jordan, spent my childhood in the Middle East, and spent my high school years in Dubai.

Q; Do you have siblings?
A; Yes, I have two younger brothers.

Q; Do you live close to your parents?
A; Yes, on the same street actually! I love living close to them. It’s like a free daycare. They’re like, “Nope you’re not going anywhere too far.” But it’s fine with me. I’m fine living so close to them because I love them and so do my kids. We’re all family.

Q; What is your specialty when it comes to event planning?
A; Well, I am a very organized person. My job is also very cool because I love to work with people. I try my best so that when people walk into the room, they say, “Wow! This is awesome!” It really makes me happy to see that I have satisfied everyone attending [the event I planned]. It makes me feel really good inside. I get butterflies before the event happens, but it’s worth it all. Ya, that’s really special to me.

Q; What is your favourite event to plan?
A; Weddings. I love, love, love to do weddings. It really takes one full year to plan, and decorate, and the whole thing. It takes that long until you can see your hard work come to life. It is a real miracle to see a full year of work pay off perfectly. It is a really cool experience. It’s kind of like how you feel making your birthday party. You’re very excited to see everybody’s reaction.

Q; How did your brand become so famous?
A; It started developing with time and work. You know the more work you put into it the more people will be interested. With time it’ll also grow bigger than it was before. Kind of like in school.

Q; Do you like doing events?
A; I love doing events. It takes awhile, but it is an amazing job that I really enjoy doing for a living. I think seeing it grow to a memory that everyone at party will remember will make me happy.

Q; What are your plans for the future?
A; Hmmm…I don’t know honestly. I find whatever God has planned for you, is what will happen in the future. So, I guess my future will come by chance.

Q; What is your favourite quote?
A; Ohhh, that’s a tough one. There are plenty of quotes that I love. But I have to say my favourite quote would have to be, “With God, everything is possible.”
