We bring you more local content with a feature on how North Star Academy—Laval’s only private English high school—has helped two former students land their dream career paths. Both students were from Laval originally and had a unique start to their journey at North Star Academy—neither of them spoke English before enrolling! Thanks to Laval’s multicultural landscape and multitude of services, recent immigrants who make the city their home may need some personalized assistance in finding employment. With so many businesses needing to pivot to virtual events due to pandemic restrictions, local company Lighting Sound Multimedia is there to guide you toward the most efficient and impactful way to host virtual events. We sat down with the founder, Archie Cifelli, to discuss the impact of the past year on the special event industry. You can read the Q & A on page 50.

It’s not just businesses that have been affected by the pandemic. Citizens of all ages have been impacted, including our youth. On page 28, we cover how youth centers across the province have been adapting their services to meet pandemic restrictions while helping teens work through the challenges they have been facing over the past year.

Even our furry or feathered wild animal friends deserve some attention, along with those who care for them and work to provide safe environments for wildlife across the province. On page 40, you’ll learn how a former hunter reinvented himself as a wildlife preservation advocate. You’ll also learn of the many partners across the province working to protect wildlife.

Speaking of wildlife and the great outdoors, don’t forget to get your dose of fresh air as often as you can. Make it a point to check out Laval’s many scenic walking paths and neighbourhoods. Fresh air and exercise are my best excuses to take my dogs out on hike!
