What is meditation sound therapy? It is a method for relaxation using different types of chimes to create a powerful healing vibration while meditating. The sounds of the instrument’s vibration support relaxation, cleansing and focus. It may help relieve stress, physical pain and tension.

Sound waves can affect our body and mental consciousness, which in turn help support better physical and mental health. The combined use of music therapy and mediation allows for the greatest improvement for natural health. It’s a simple tool to use to enhance the meditation experience.

There are several kinds of instruments that can be used during meditation sessions. Different instruments will produce various tones and sounds. Some are higher pitched, and others have a low faint tone. Some require to be repetitively striked where others sing for longer in between manipulation. Different instruments will give different results during the practice.

First, is a singing bowl or Tibetan bowl. This is a metal type of bowl that comes in either large or small sizes. With the help of a wooden stick or mallet hitting the side or continually rubbing on the exterior of the bowl, it will emit a light ring. The sound is a vibration that promotes relaxation, eases pain and helps to increase the body’s circulation.  Spending just a few minutes per day using the bowl will help the body to calm into a deep relaxation.

Second, is a crystal singing pyramid. This is a triangle form instrument made from quartz crystal. It is used with a suede striker or mallet. It is held by the top by a string and when the pyramid is hit, the sound energy echoes effortlessly. This instrument will resonate the longest. It may sing for a few minutes. There are different techniques to use to help create different waves of sound. This type of instrument may be used to begin a meditation session, clear chakras, and restore energy and balance.

Third, is a chime solo. This is a long sliver rod placed in a wooden base with a wood or rubber mallet.  It emits a ding sound that is soft and subtle. This instrument is to be used while focusing on the breath within and reenergizing the mind and body. This may also be used in a classroom environment to start off the day or to teach mindfulness to children. The chime solo is often used for group meditation.

Whichever instrument is used during meditation is guaranteed to help foster a deeper connection to your healing journey. While sound mediating, try to keep an open mind and focus on the breath. Use the instruments to kick off the session and during the session to refocus the mind if it wanders. The chime vibration may sound different depending on the softness and speed of the strikes. Try to experiment with different types of strikers. Enjoy the process of finding which tool works best for your needs. Meditation sound therapy is the guide towards your personal healing journey.
